Re: [MTC Global] [Weekdays Discussion-I] Declines in Student Number & Challenges of rightsizing

A Very relevant topic indeed in the present context where a vast majority of our youths are staring at unemployment even after spending on Higher Education there definitely is a disconnect in the correlation between education and life-skill. Somehow when you see young boys and youths who work in garages...they are not even having proper school education but with hands on training they learn and some become so good that they are able to become entrepreneurs themselves setting up their own small garage. That's the benefit of apprenticed learning.
Our education system is more theoretical - learning by rote and aimed at passing to get paper degrees/diploma's rather than learning skills by practical learning and R & D. Many Engineering colleges don't even have the basic tools for research and even students rather than asking for tools are more content in downloading the projects from the site and making paper presentation to get marks,
A Chartered Accountant has to undergo apprenticeship/article-ship with a C.A. firm which enables him to know practical application of his theoretical learning.

We need a very serious change in the way our education is presently being taught.

Stephen

Interesting discussion of higher education institutions .  All talk about declines in student numbers & challenges of "rightsizing".

It would be interested to hear the views of the esteemed MTCians.
