Re: [MTC Global] What do you think is the future of business education?

Thank you Stephen. Yes, one thing is very unique that there is no goonda-ism in Thai colleges and universities.  I am from USA and there also colleges and universities will not tolerate the kind of stuff that goes in the largest democracy.

Most of the politicians in the north India are themselves big dadas and goondas and have criminal history. And they are the ones guiding the governance and policies. We can all talk, discuss and deliberate but where the system is controlled by the corrupt, it is rather difficult to understand how much the instructors can do? There is no doubt that there is a small minority making efforts but that is not enough to make a difference in a big country like India. I must say, as a student you have to be very lucky to get admitted in a college where you are exposed to a versatile faculty or meet good students. I am not very familiar with the scenario in many Southern States but North India is in shambles when it comes to higher education, especially in state universities. In places like MP, UP, Bihar you hear about teaching factories and diploma mills. I am not sure how far things have to go down before we see a turn around. May be an asteroid strike will do it? Cheers.

Well we take pride in calling our country the largest Democracy in the world. By nature Humans have been unable to conquer greed and this has led to downfall of humans as history holds out varied examples. Politicians and politics have also been a butt of jokes for long as those who are a failure in other spheres of life amass lots of wealth and power through politics. But I will give them credit for being Leaders whom even the highly qualified and educated management people follow with folded hands. Power, authority, ruthlessness and uncanny abilities to spot good opportunities to leverage their personal profits at the expense of the country while giving lectures on morality have all been a regular part and event of our politics but at times we do get a Leader who puts country first and the results do take a little time in coming as lot of other factors also have to be considered.
All said and done Dr. Negi, we do know that Thailand is a monarchy where people have to toe the line of what the rulers want irrespective of whether it is right or wrong. Since you have had more experience there with your teaching stint, we would welcome your sharing about the best practice which you have observed there and how it is profitable to the common public over there.

Stephen

In India the fate of education is in the hands of uneducated and corrupt politicians. Majority of the colleges in the North are filled with anti social elements and infested with party politics. Unfortunately, the academia has been largely passive. To me, the future is nothing but an extension where we are today- the present. And it does not look very promising. Cheers.

The huge migration of population from rural to urban areas and even rural areas being brought under corporation and nagar palika for tax-free industrial estate would no doubt bring problem of its own. We have perhaps forgotten how the General Manager - HR of Maruti Suzuki was beaten and burnt to death. Militancy is rising among solidarity of work force and this is another problematic area which the future managers would need to contend with.
Today's TOI brought forth a new revelation...the army needs protection. They have asked for creation of a new unit corps of 18K men to secure their camps. On one hand no doubt this would provide employment opportunity for many but on the other hand doesn't it reveal the fragility of our armed force in not being able to secure their own establishments/camps?
Future dealings in any field would require LEADERSHIP quality.

Dear All,
The business managers of the future will be required to serve the 66% of population migrated to the urban areas and 33% in rural within next two decades. The responsibility of today's visionary is to take a long-term view to educate, equip and empower young working generation grooming them for respecting professional ethics and values.
