Re: [MTC Global] The future of education is all about inter-disciplinary education

My take is:

  1. In the existing education pattern we do have some elements of interdisciplinary type of education but mostly disjointed.
  2. In fact,  problem (project) handling needs interdisciplinary knowledge so that one can have better insight, team work.
  3. The faculty from various disciplines need to hold a few interactive sessions at least once in a month deliberating how the disciplines-compartmentalization can be minimized. The goals need to be clearly defined and all disciplines need to align to these goals.
  4. Industrial Engineering approach can be of a great help in the matter.
  5. We need to understand no discipline can grow in isolation unless it is coupled  more or less to all other relevant disciplines. Wisdom or knowledge, we must note, is not the monopoly of a single discipline. In the ancient Indian Gurukul System as good as 64 'Vidyas-Kalas'  were taught including dancing, music, singing, painting, pottery, horticulture,  sculpture, rational thinking (judiciary), weaponry, trading, craftsmanship, horse riding, farming, medicine, hunting, swimming, etc.
  6. For example, the Ergono-mist or Human Factors Engineering expert need to possess adequate knowledge of various disciplines like HR, Anthropologist, Work Study, Work Simplification, Psychology, physiology, mechanics, mathematics, Job Design, Job Satisfaction, etc.
  7. It is unfortunate that we compartmentalize the disciplines, water tight, sometimes even hate other disciplines, we possess utter lack of co-ordination like, Mathematics teachers hardly bother about math applications in disciplines like Heat Transfer, Electromagnetism, Hydraulics, Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Genetics, Astrology, Numerology,  etc.
