I agree with Prof. Marathe's views.
Before Marathwada was merged in Maharashtra, it was under the control of Nizaam of Hyderabad State up to 1949 and the entire official work of revenue, judiciary, etc., was in Urdu. Even the engineering degrees offered by Osmania University were in Urdu medium till say 1955 or so. I know a few BE (Civil) graduates who obtained their degrees in 1954 so with Urdu medium.
Even during Peshava regime and earlier, Pharasi was the official language for many centuries in India.
Govt. policies, i.e., Govt. backing and support, play the important role. Germany, Russia, China, France,Japan and many other advanced countries do not use English as the Official language.
The ghost of English language on Indian mind set is surely the sign of slavery and ignorance; the least I can say.
Wipe out the self-deception notion that English is essential for economical, commercial, scientific development or more money earning capacity. Sooner the better! Is it wise to earn Rs 10 (by some) by loosing Rs 100 (of the lot)?

I believe in economic principle of
"DEMAND AND SUPPLY"
Is there a demand for Marathi Education in Maharashtra? Even a Maid servant in the house sends her children to English Medium. WHY SO?
Every one thinks by learning English their children can go to Foreign Nations and 'make more money' or will get top jobs even in India. This kind of thinking is shrinking the demand for vernacular language school.
If Government makes Sanskrit Language compulsory for top jobs like IAS,IPS,IFS and other UPSC posts people will start learning Sanskrit for the sake of Competitive jobs. I believe.
