Amazon's surging shares — they'd risen to $1,071.31 as of 9:30 a.m. Eastern — turned its CEO into the world's richest person today. Bezos jumped past Bill Gates, who's occupied the top slot since 2013; the Amazon founder started the year as number four and has since outpaced Gates, Warren Buffett, and Inditex SA founder Amancio Ortega.In other Amazon news: Amazon has a secret team working on health care, CNBC
reports, called 1492. The Seattle-based unit works on both hardware and software projects, from revamping electronic medical records to creating apps for Amazon devices like the Echo. It's not the company's only push into the industry; Amazon recently invested in a cancer-testing startup called Grail and has shown interest in selling pharmaceuticals.
