Re: [MTC Global] Reality Check ~ World's top performing school system

Dear All,

The statement "Now a days teachers are kept busy in all admin and so-called-social activities other than teaching in class and labs" needs thorough investigation to see as to why and what happens on shop floor. AICTE, UGC and Universities have clearly specified the faculty job duties and responsibility. In a week faculty is required to take 16 hrs teaching work load/week and remaining 20 hrs/week (assuming 6 working days, 6 hrs per day) can be suitably adjusted in teaching related activities including administration. The year of 360 days is utilized as:
  1. Teaching working days (90 days/semester prescribed); 180 pa. (average assigned actual teaching load 2.67 hrs/day)
  2. Holidays: 20
  3. Sundays 48
  4. Vacation: 50 days
  5. CL: 12 days
  6. Total:310
  7. Balance (360-310=) 50 days, normally used for prep, exam,  etc.
  8. The research shows that the actual teaching (theory/practical/tutorial) efficiency lies in the range 40% to 80%.
In view of the above the following is suggested:
  1. Plan all yearly activities at least one month before the commencement of the following AY including such details as commencement/closing of semesters, budget submission, purchase, holidays, annual social gathering, public holidays and other major activities. A copy of the calendar be given to all students and employees before commencement of AY and be displayed on institute's website.
  2. Data mining is a must for preparing some vital reports and proposals like AICTE approval, LIC Report, Recruitment, etc. In fact, over 80 % data remains unchanged and thus the data can be manipulated at a click avoiding eleventh hour rush work. While during my tenure as a Director, CU Shah College of Engineering & Technology, WadhwanCity (Gujarat), 2005-007, the AICTE approval report used to be prepared by the Registrar and one Sr. Clerk in Establishment within 3 days and on the 5th day, the clerk used to hand over report personally  to AICTE Office, Bhopal. Secret: Data base management..
  3. Lean philosophy, 5S and 3M are wonderful tools to improve productivity using ICT tools readily available in all colleges. If necessary train the team embers in-house only.
  4. If the above is done systematically, individual and institute can fetch a big dividend reflected in terms of improved quality of education, better utilization of resources,  reduced cost, time and wastage, more research, consulting, etc.

Dear All,

No employee of an organization is engaged in any assignments for other than what is appointed...
Why teachers only......?
There should be different section for election duties.data collection.surveys.......etc

"The quality of one's educational system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers according to a 2007 study on the world' top performing school systems."

Now we know the answer. We knew it before as well. So , why the delay? What is holding us back?
