[MTC Global] PBL/Case Studies: a viable approach to enhance quality of education...

Dear Professors,
  1. Problem/Project Based Learning (PBL) is an internationally accepted tool in education technology since the last 7 decades. In this model teacher is replaced by coach and student by trainee or a team member.
  2. In India PBL is  hardly used though we much talk about OBE, eLearning, MOOC, etc.
  3. PBL is based on the Project Management concept (including such overlapping phases as planning, execution, time/cost/quality control, etc.).
  4. Project means a live case study that can be successfully carried out in one semester by a group of 4-5 students.
  5. Keep eyes, ears and brain open, one finds many problems around, a potent ground ready for case studies.
  6. Case studies normally require interdisciplinary know-how, determination and focus supported by planning and due execution.
  7. We hardly find worth the name any Indian case study. Case study is rather a mini research and faculty has enough potential to carry it out that improves quality of training, and students are job-ready in one or the other way.
  8. I appeal all the faculty please make up mind and undertake case studies of your interests, at least 2-3 case studies pa (any case study carried out meticulously contributes to knowledge in many ways to society, students, faculty and domain knowledge). Please note I am trying to convey that undertake 2-3 live projects every year for your batch of 15 students.
  9. Since 1970, I have carried out many case studies, a few of them are published and awarded, found useful to society/industry. Some of these are listed below.
Some case studies/projects:
  1. Design, manufacture and testing of a centrifugal pump: BE project: 1970.

  6. TISCO Case Study, GT application in a division, 1984.

  14. A Case Stydy on on Faculty Recruitmemt for MIT, publushed Article in 2015.
  15. A published Case Study Fcaculty wages, 2015.
  16. PA Case Study: 410 faculty and 90 staff, presented in Int. Conference, 2016 published in 2017.
  17. etc.
As I know Dr. Jagdish, (and surely  a few more faculty of course unknown to me),  also has been carrying out some case studies (projects) as a part of social service through projects of UG.
Those who are interested can contact me any time or Dr. Jagdish. We will be happy to your service.
Arise, Awake and Do not stop till you achieve the goal: at least one  Case Study pa!
