Re: [MTC Global] Don't Let Anyone Tell You You're Not Creative

Dear All,
While budgets and blending of technologies is the present trend, the creativity and ability to think "outside the box" is becoming critical to the success of students ( future managers) , "traditional" pedagogical approaches still dominate and in the existing structure of the curriculum there is a lack of courses supporting or "giving enough space" for creativity.
Warm regards,

Unfortunately, this sloka is often misquoted especially by politicians. It should be understood in its full context.

अयं निज: परो वेति गणना लघुचेतसाम् ।
उदारचरितानां तु वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् ॥

He is mine and he is other, is the thought that narrow minded people have.
For noble people, entire world is family.

Vasudhaiba kutumbakam has riders and conditionalities. It's only for large hearted people (उदारचरितानां तु) that Vasudha eeba kutumbakam. Large majority of people are narrow minded (लघुचेतसाम्). For them, world is not a family.

I don't know if I am overshooting. Should it interest, you may like to refer to Story of Sacrifice in Sri Aurobindo's interpretation of Bhagavat Gita for a larger view in relation to Divinity.

"Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam" is a Sankrit phrase derived by joining three words:
  1. Vasudha (Earth) +
  2. eeva (this) =Vasudhaiv :The Earth herself
  3. Kutumbkam (is a family: blood relations).

And Vasudeo is the Deva of the Earth (Brahma) synonymous to Krishna, Narayan or Vishnu.

Thank Mr. Manish Khare. You have corrected. I, till now used to use this word and understood that Vasudev i.e. Father of Lord Krishna is the meaning. I know less Hindi. Vasudha means Earth. I was invited by a foreign country to speak in International Conference on Ethics for Technologists.
I used this word there too.
My abstract was accepted and speech was to be delivered.
Thank God due to certain reasons, I did not go to that country. Or I would have explained this word in a wrong way. By doing so, I would have become a laughing stock because international media does not spare at all.
Today's learning: VASUDHAIV KUTUMBKAM. I really thank you from the core of my heart.\

Dear Prof Keshap,
Its not Vaudeve Kutumbkam" वासुदेव: कुटुंबकम i.e. world is a family; instead its VASUDHAIV (Vasudha[meaning 'earth'] + ev [meaning 'only']) KUTUMBKAM.
It has nothing to do with Vasudev..

With due apology to all my MTC e-friends. Please don't interpret my comment otherwise but as a learning only. This has benefited me a lot in life.
Yes, Dr. Sahib, creativity is not a trait to be certified. One writer has well said: Formal education gives you a job, self-education gives you a fortune.
So, dear students, believe in self-education and you will become millionaire or billionaires, he further advised.
Creativity belongs to the second part of his saying. Self-education trains, tames and trims wild thinking and allows the mind of the learner to focus on the effective tangible results in life.
These tangible results are the results of continuous self-learning and meditating upon what is learnt and how that learning is beneficial for self, related with self and society as well as world as large.
This learning also enables the thinking to work for the world by changing the mindset to "Vaudeve Kutumbkam" वासुदेव: कुटुंबकम i.e. world is a family.

My take is:
  1. As Swami Vivekananda says "Every human being is potentially divine and this divinity can be manifested by controlling the nature externally and internally".
  2. Thus, every human being is gifted with creativity and innovation.
  3. It however cannot be standardized. It is very dynamic and normally distributed in various fields, one or the other.
  4. Now the million dollar question remains how are we going to control it externally and internally?
  5. If we are honest enough in our purpose, the world will be full of creativity and innovation.

Dear MTCians, Creativity and innovation can never be there through only reading. Reading, thinking and implementation must go hand in hand. Creativity is the result of the true dedication to the cause. We must first dedicate ourselves for the cause, i.e. our own teaching, learning and research then there will be plethora of creative and innovative teachers and students.

Prof. Amrit Lal Ghosh.

How can educators infuse passion and creativity into an ever increasing data driven education system making it dysfunctional?
Thus the call for creative teachers!!!
