RE: [ACEsthetics] Nd-great new novel

Just got back from a wedding at the Air Force Academy’s chapel…amazing structure with a 1000 pipe organ.  A Lt. Colonel from here was marrying a captain in the Air Force.  She’s getting out and he’s staying in.  He’s only 38 and already a light colonel.  I see him as a general…just a beautiful woman he is marrying externally and internally.

Her mother was a total bitch.  Her sister was constantly apologizing for her.  I finally told the sister than the mother’s husband was a gastroenterologist and he just found her one day and pulled her out.  Us yokels understood.  This kid is going to be a general.

We have a friend whose son who went to West Point and has been trained as a Ranger.  He has grown totally disillusioned by today's military, and the way the commanders are seeking to feather their own caps with total disregard for the grunts.  He was planning to make the Army his career.  He's not re-upping.

It really gives a great perspective of a young Texan sent off to Iraq, and all of the huge contradictions between coming home a hero to a football crazed Texas and being involved in a war zone in Iraq- all of the conflicting emotions that involves. Lots of it is easy to relate to, as the author is quite  beguiling with his wordsmithing and transfer of meaning.

Enjoyable and meaningful.
