what you said is exactly right. now it is the need of the hour to rethink of age old curriculum for Ph. D. courses.
especially, on the period of the course, we should rethink on it. still there are many university which offer part-time Ph.D. as five years course.
Do we really need five years for completing the Ph.D., if one is really interested to do it.
