Re: [MTC Global] Student feedback-Yard stick of faculty performance?

Dear all, Student feedback is one of the important indicators of faculty performance, however, one definitely can not rely only on student feedback for evaluation of faculty performance. I agree that most indians find it difficult to be absolutely fair and objective in their assessment of personalities without being unduly influenced by extraneous factors or personal liking or disliking. This has been one of the obstacles in effective implementation of 360 degree feedback process. However, it can be properly dovetailed as part of the overall system and process of evaluation to take advantage of the instrument. The feedback of old students can also be added as it may be more reliable than current ones, for they will not be influenced by immediate concerns of fear or favour. Regards, Dr R P Singh

performance?

A feedback form needs careful thought.
First it has to be well thought through.Open ended questions as against close ended ,on a scale of 1-10 etc make a difference
Second,is the student put through say a feedback training program. As a whole it is believed Indians are not good at feedback.
Also   do we want development feedback or motivational ?
Interesting though to think through this.....

Dear All,

Traditionally student feedback and exam results been considered major yardsticks of the performance and effectiveness of faculty members by the leadership of various colleges/institutes/organizations. However, lately this issue is being debated widely because of the loopholes and errors in the student feedback process. It's observed that in several cases, student's give faulty feedback owing to strictness/discipline being imposed by faculty etc. The students may even wrongly favor a faculty for being friendly and lenient .In some cases the student undergo undue influence to negatively/positively incline towards a faculty etc. Apart from this, even management may use this as a tool to support their decisions in select cases,  Solicit your views, experiences and opinions on the same.
