Dear Dr. Rice,
Thank you for your feedback regarding the selection of the 2013 Distinguished Speaker.
The selection of the Distinguished Speakers is a process led by ADA members serving on the Council on ADA Sessions (CAS). CAS takes into account member input solicited from surveys then starts the selection process almost 2 years prior to the actual meeting. For 2013, we started the process in May of 2012 with an attendee survey of ADA members who participated in the 2011 Annual Session (over 5500 responses) for their input on topics and/or future speakers. This information is a driving force in the Council's selection process.
The Council on ADA Sessions represents members from all seventeen districts of the association as well as liaisons from the ADA's New Dentist Committee, the Local Arrangements Committee, and also a Liaison from the ADA's Board of Trustees. Every year, the Council reviews the survey, suggests and discusses potential speakers and then comes to a consensus on their top speaker choices. This information is shared with ADA leadership and then ADA staff begins the process of securing the potential speaker(s) for the year in question based on these choices.
This process has brought to Annual Session speakers such as George Will, Robert Reich, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Malcolm Gladwell, Rudy Giuliani, President George Bush Sr., Sir Richard Branson, Katie Couric, Norman Schwarzkopf, Bob Dole and British Prime Minister John Major. ADA prides itself in bringing key and interesting leaders from various political, economic and philosophical backgrounds to our members which our history illustrates. This allows attendees to listen to those they may or may not agree with.
We are currently in the process of working on our 2014 potential speaker list and I will make sure your feedback about 2013 is included. Your input is certainly important to us. Thanks again for sharing your perspective.
Please feel free to contact me directly should you have any questions or want more information about this process. I will also pass on your feedback to the Chair of the Council on ADA Sessions Dr. Michael Blicher.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
Sincerely,

Thank you for your feedback regarding our selection of the 2013 Distinguished Speaker.

This allows attendees to listen to those they may or may not agree with. Regardless of one's political or philosophical beliefs, the Council on ADA Sessions is proud and excited to welcome another former U.S. President to our Annual Session.
We are currently in the process of working on our 2014 potential speaker list and I will make sure your feedback about 2013 is included. Not everyone will be happy with our 2013 selection, or our 2014 selection for that matter, but your input certainly is important to us. Thanks again for sharing your perspective.
Please feel free to contact me directly should you have any questions or want more information about this process.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Blicher
2013 Chair – Council on ADA Sessions
