What are our academicians and their affiliating institutions short of ? Competence? Skill? Poor reputation?:

I was fortunate( unfortunate?) to work in two entirely different environments and can say this with a lot of conviction-the way the academician thinks and works is very different from the way a corporate manager thinks and works .Beginning with something as simple and complex as  language/lingo used to the  way a thought is constructed to the way it is  expressed   to the way we focus outcomes-all are poles apart.
So much so when I moved to the corporate world I had to unlearn re learn open communication,of expressing what I had  in mind openly and straighforward-ly. The  speed of work is unique .We work as individuals in academics-we better be teams in the corporate world.Knowledge is from the book and knowledge has to be coupled with skill and hands on ...I could go on.....We don't have registers because it is expected of  everyone to be  accountable and responsible-otherwise out you go. Tenure makes life cushy in academics.I can churn out a 20 years 'notes' in class- updating is the name of the game for survival in the  corporate both for the organisation and the individual .
Bridging this wide chasm requires dexterity.What the guy in the field requires is sharing of experiences-hard core experience  and to learn from mistakes. Academicians who went out and soiled their hands win hands down like say in the IIM where consulting is big time crown

Unlike what is happening in Europe and USA, corporates are reluctant to take academicians into confidence and involve them in the research that relates to their business issues ( that  require research).

If it is so, how can academicians reconcile( bridge) with corporates? If Indian corporates are not used to ( no culture of accessing academicians' skills) working with academicians, why not foreign companies that operate in India work with academicians.

Many corporate honchos that connect with this forum may deliberate on what academicians lack? Why Indian corporate don't need academicians' inputs vis-a-vis foreign companies on foreign turf work closely with academicians?
