RE: [MTC Global] Teachers are not Clerk

Respected Mr. Rakesh Seth,

One of the popular management concept is core competence. The core competence of B-School faculty is teaching, research and consultancy. If a regular faculty is diverted to non teaching and non core jobs, this is definitely going to disengage him and may be compromise on the core job i.e. teaching. No body is questioning the humanity or humanness of clerks. But their core competence is administrative work and they should be left to that only.

In today’s time, most of the faculties already have deadline orientation and know how to deal with colleagues by virtue of their industry experience. This should not be an excuse to put them into administrative jobs.

Regards

K.P.MISHRA

Clerks are also human being.

Each job has to have an element of administrative work.  Administrative work is a hassle therefore tendency is to avoid it and load it to others.

I feel Professors must learn to perform administrative work also.  Job should be so designed that it does not interfere with regular faculty work. Administrative work teaches disciplines, how to get uncluttered, deadline orientation, dealing with others at peer levels etc.

Respected Prof. Bholanath Dutta,

..... I fully agree with you sir..... most of the teachers including university professors are overburdened more with administrative work rather that of teaching...... professors have become teacher-administrators which is not correct..... shortage of staff is adding further fuel to this.....

.... In our osmania university, I have seen some of the best faculty who were over burdened with administrative work.....teachers shall raise their voice in appropriate forums and shall bring it to the kind notice of ugc and others.....

Even after the education department- Punjab has directed government schools in the city not to assign any non-teaching job to teachers, the practice is still rampant as reported in Hindustan Times http://www.hindustantimes.com/punjab/chandigarh/despite-education-dept-s-orders-teachers-not-clerks-still-handle-ssa/article1-1191092.aspx

But it is very common in colleges [HE] and it is named as Academic Administration and also calculated in the world-load. Many places administrative staffs are very few and most of the activities run by faculty only.
