Job Summary:

The Technical Analyst role is a combination of business analyst, requirements engineer and systems analyst. Responsible for requirements elicitation, understanding the business, and making recommendations for improvement and analyzing the requirements to determine the system needs to fulfill those requirements. Works with Systems Solutions team to determine high-level estimates on the level of effort and target implementation timeline as well as overall feasibility and solutions options. Responsible for documenting solutions, as part of an integrated team, for software product offerings, enhancements, extensions, features and defect corrections. Requires the ability to obtain a core understanding of existing systems architecture and platforms. Responsible for setting and meeting implementation deadlines for work streams where a Project Manager is not involved. Interfaces with business owners, project managers, developers, software quality engineers and external parties.

 

This role will also require heavy involvement with a 3rd party vendor who provides multiple instances of a core software solution. The TA will help coordinate and manage the operational relationship with the vendor which will include: defect and enhancement analysis, understanding system implications of business requests, coordinating deployments across multiple instances, and mapping changing functionality across instances.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Elicit and drive functional requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, system analysis and workflow analysis.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver the following artifacts as needed: Functional Requirements Document including Use Cases, UML, Data Flows, and business impacts.
  • Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Drive and challenge business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their plans.
  • Strong analytical and product management skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Serves as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and the software development team through which functional requirements flow.
  • Develop functional requirements specifications according to standard templates, using natural language.
  • Will be accountable for Requirements Design time estimates in hours.
  • Needs to have light project management skills (for work streams that do not include a PM).
  • Presents Functional Designs in Business/IT review meetings.
  • Reviews Technical Design documents, Development integration tests and Quality Assurance test plans and/or matrices for conformance to solution of the business need.

 

Job Requirements:

Equivalent Education Level Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. (Exceptions for equivalent experience)

 

Experience Required: 5 or more years of Business Requirements decomposition and Systems Analysis.

 

Knowledge Required: RUP Methodology, Strong SDLC experience, UML. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), time management, interpersonal and team participation. Demonstrated ability to systematically gather relevant information from different sources to address an issue and make prompt and insightful decisions. Excellent interpersonal skills including analytical, problem solving, organizational, issue resolution.
