[MTC Global] Kakatiya on verge of getting negative on NAAC accreditation

Kakatiya University's (KU) delay in conducting PhD admissions has been seriously affecting the research activity, which might lead to negative impact about the University in National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation which lapsed in last March.

The Kakatiya University was first to be accredited with B+ grade rating in the year 2003 and in 2009 NAAC has given 'A' grade to the university.

KU is the second one in the south to become a European Union (EU) partner for exchange of scholars on European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students (ERASMUS) projects for two way mobility between KU and EU.

But then the research has come to stand still since 2011. The KU has conducted PhD admissions for first time in 2011 after the UGC Regulation 2009 on Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M Phil/PhD Degree came into existence. PhD notification has been issued followed in 2012 followed by entrance test and announcement of results in 2013. But there has been no progress in the process of admissions. Only pharmacy department is able to conduct admissions while all other departments failed to admit research scholars.

The university officials, who are expected to conduct the admissions once or twice in a year like many other universities like Osmania University in Hyderabad, are not bothered about the careers of hundreds of students who appeared for the entrance test. The PhD admissions are being deferred on some or other pretext. According to students who have appeared for the entrance exam and seeking admissions, preferential treatment by a former administrator led to trouble in the PhD admission process as he is alleged to have committed irregularities.

It is learnt that the university is yet to approve admission guidelines based on recommendations by a committee headed by a senior professor on the eligibility criteria in line with UGC guidelines is yet to get the approval of the university standing council.

But the standing council meetings are not being conducted, said a senior administrator in the university. The inordinate delay in PhD admissions could severely affect the university's efforts to resume its NAAC 'A' grade accreditation, said the convener of KU Employees JAC Kola Shankar, reported Hans India.
