Re: [MTC Global] Google cannot replace teachers, says UGC Vice-Chairman

It is undoubtedly true that the Internet or Google cannot replace a
teacher or Guru. We need to understand that Gurus do not simply impart
information and knowledge but also contribute to effective and
innovative learning by using a various of teaching and learning methods
such as role play, simulation, management games.

When Gurus and students interact in a face-to-face environment, students
learning may be faster. Students get motivated to ask a variety of
questions and seek to clarify their doubts. Good teachers are also a
source of inspiration for the students.

When students use the Internet/Google to search and collect information,
many times, they may not understand the contents or the literature. In
such a case, they need an INTERPRETATOR and the interpretor is the Guru.

In my opinion, the Internet or Google is a good method for students when
they want to learn independently e.g. to work on their assignments,
presentations and dissemination of information. Of course, they may also
interact online with others and seek clarification however, the
face-to-face interaction is more effective.

Furthermore, more importantly, who will teach the values (or sanskar) to
the students and guide them in right direction. Of course, it will be the
parents and Gurus. When Gurus teach the students, there is an environment
of discipline too. On the other hand, there are apprehensions that
students may not be able to follow value system when they have access to
all materials available in the Internet. I need not explain further in
this regard.
