I find some points here:
- Dress code is a part of professional ethics as followed by doctors, nurses, teachers, leaders, etc. for several reasons like hygienic, neatness, uniformity, sense of brand or belonging, etc.
- Dress code is profession dependent. Gandhiji, Lal Bahadur, Nehru, Sushma Swaraj, Sonia Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda and many more follow certain dress code as per their goals and for certain accomplishments.
- (A Ideal) Teacher does not need to observe all these customs because of two reasons: (1) S/he self-controlled, a role model for others, a path setter and self-perfect-made. I personally think teacher does not need any muster or bio-metrics, no other administrative formalities because s/he is such a law maker that s/he it (law) first practices, shows others how to function. This is real autonomy. Autonomy means many constraints and restrictions imposed by oneself, it is something like sacrificing personal comforts, renunciation. If it is the case, all issues melt away automatically.
- Dress code may help for a new entrant to acclimatize with the work culture of an organization.

I don';t understand reason behind this discussion. If a faculty knows how to dress which is usually developed over a period of time during his/ her education process, exposure etc there is no point implementing dress code.
Basic professionalism includes all these if anybody lacks this he needs counseling and mentoring .
Use of biometric is another useless concept in institutes. Basic professionalism includes responsibility towards job. Further this is not a factory were unless a worker is absent from Hus point in assembly line production system is hampered. If I have my lecture at 11 am and college starts at 10 am what';s wrong if because of certain contingencies I arrive 39 min late. There are many instances were a faculty works out of time too. One needs to understand intention.
Are we so immatured that we need these kind of administration tools. If so forget about students.
Further I don';t believe making fancy professional environment will enhance professionalsm. Yes ido agree basic professional etiquette must b maintained by everyone but not like this.
We at sharda group of institutions don';t have any such diktats but no body dress so poorely that will be embarrassing. We are thinking to lift dress code for post graduate students too on daily basis.
There are several benefits of dress code for employees like:
- Developing sense of belonging-ness, brand, discipline, unity or family, self-confidence, pride, etc.
- Identification of employees category-wise.
- To help identify the stranger, security measures, etc.
In MIT Campus Aurangabad, we run 2 Engineering Colleges, One polytechnic, one Nursing college and one food technology college. All employees have Employee ID Number and related badge. Employee';s attendance is recorded on bio-metrics unit against the employee ID and badge to be used while on duty in colleges. At present we have separate dress code as given below:
We are planning to change the colours institute-wise in the following AY 2016-17.
- Male faculties: Full sleeve white shirt with college Logo, preferably a black pant, not to use chappels but sandal or shoes. Principals and MBA students to use tie. Cost is recovered from salary.
- Lady faculties: Pink sari with matching blouse or Punjabi dress, no chapels allowed. Cost is recovered from salary.
- Non teaching staff: Blue shirt, allowed to use chappals. Cost is recovered from salary.
- Non teaching workshop instructors: Full workshop dress with tow pockets and shoes. Cost is recovered from salary.
- Non-teaching attendant employees: Khaki shirt. Supplied by management.
- Drivers: Gray bush shirt and full pant.Supplied by management, Supplied by management.
- Students (gents and ladies): Blue full sleeve shirt with full black or jinn pant. : Cost is borne by students.
- Outsourced House Keeping employees: Blue dress as supplied by the contractor.
- Security outsourced: Security dress to be provided by the contractor.
- Attendants outsourced: Khaki dress supplied by the contractor.
- Mess and canteen: Dress code as prescribed by the contractors.
