Re: [MTC Global] Richard Branson on 'Modernizing Education'

Thanks Professor Kuldeepji foy your intellectual argument. My take is, shown in red:

Time is like our eye sight. You can only see so far.  With the process of aging the sense of time and place is also lost.
That loosing  both sense of time and place is a  natural process, uncontrolled by any living organisms. Does it mean time is lost? Time does not stop but continues to move ahead, uninterrupted infinitely.

Time may be eternal but history is nothing but recycled knowledge full of distortions and contradictions.

Time is omnipresent, omniscience, nothing like internal or external, time is a concept undefined. True,  history is a recycled knowledge as it is the cumulative (localized) effect of the past. But historical  knowledge is distorted, found with contradictions as result of man's limitations in terms of say lack of written evidence, non-availability of exploring tools, and many times self-interests of the writer or of one who dictates him.

So let us separate the two- time is eternal but the history is all made up. I do not see any connection between colonial history of India and birth of Internet or social media or anything that may happen in this new century.

In Shikhs, we listen to greetings as"Sat (truth)  Shree (pious) Akal (the God who is timeless, beyond time) ". What does it mean?  Time less time is the only truth! Time is universal, a constant, neutral, ever-flowing  but effects seen on (man's) history are mostly localized, though apparently some global effect is bound to influence the local effect   Colonial history of India (slavery) was the the local effect of Indian continent and birth of Internet/social media/etc., is the local effect of advanced countries. Both are sharing the fruits according to their behavior and performance. History is by the man, for the man and of the man!  Hence connecting the colonial status of India (local effect) existing in 18th and 19th century with the status of advanced countries (local effect) in 20th and 21st century is not justifiable.

Following your argument nothing repeats itself the same way, including past, present or future. And as far as we know, only astrologers mislead people into believing in the future. No one can predict the future. One can only use conjectures to explain the vastness of the unknown. Cheers.

I am not talking bout astrology. Are we not thinking about future? Why do we  go for mission and vision statements? We have a dream. My only point is present  is lived on the giant shoulders of the past in order to shape the future as per our dream. Thus there exists relationship among past, present and future, more or less interdependent, interconnected. If it is not so,  why still India is called as the developing country after 67 years of independence unlike China and Japan? India is an extrapolation of her own past!

Time is a continuing infinite flow having no start or end. In fact, time is non measurable. Hour, minutes, etc., are the time-measures devised by man for reference purpose only. Man has an infinitesimal vision of time who divides time for the sake of convenience as past and future  wrt the present, the very moment  the man is in.

Therefore,

Present is the past of the future and the future of the past. Though past, present and future are inseparable, they are interdependent, connected and interacting with each other, namely, the past gives birth to the present that gives birth to the future.

Present being on the giant shoulders of the past initiates modernization and so always remains modern.

Sir Richard as always makes an important point .

However I don't think the two are mutually exclusive .. good education should facilitate both .
