RE: [MTC Global] CSR is not PR, you do good because you want to do good

CSR is not a PR exercise …

but the fact that, CSR had to be legally enforced by the Govt, it is indicative of corporate approach towards this activity !

Unfortunately in India, we do not create wealth for the benefit of the society. It is looked at as private booty and result of family efforts (however dubious the means may be to acquire the wealth.

If one traces the corporate history, we shall find numerous examples of such crony capitalism where businessmen/politicians/bureaucrats benefitted due to illegal largesse and misappropriation of public resources (land, water, spectrum, minerals etc). It has been in our DNA and sharing (on larger scale) doesn't come naturally to Indians. Albeit for smaller contribution or help, average Indian surely is far more liberal …..

Resistance to GST isn't due to inconvenience (which is bound to be there for some time) but more due to Govt plugging of loopholes for 'Jugaad' and plain simple "Hera Pheri" ….. not to mention outright Evasion and Theft ……

Ideally, CSR should not be treated as PR function, however, authorities can not  keep an enterprise from claiming ir as PR. And there is nothing wrong if a corporation capitalises upon it. Ultimately, CSR meets triple bottom line I.e. profit, people and planet, requirements.

CSR is a legal responsibility. It is up to the values of the organization and individuals responsible for implementation of CSR whether they are doing it because they want to do good or they are doing it for PR purposes or both.

CSR is not PR, you do good because you want to do good--do you agree?
