Re: @Pa Fru: Cameroun Failed State: The FBI has Launched a Massive Arrest in Cameroon: 602 Targeted, 90 Already Being Prosecuted in Yaounde by the FBI:

I think we are missing the crux of the langua. The underlying theme here was when the fellow highlighted the fact that Bamenda was the epicenter of cyber crimes. Nothing could be further from the truth. Whether its the FBI, CIA, CENER, Scotland Yard, KGB, Interpol, US Marshalls or whoever carrying out the investigations is completely immaterial. Going after "Criminals" any where in the world is normal but to simply come out of their closet  bunkers to lambaste and tarnish the entire image of innocent people is completely uncalled for. He hates Bamenda people. YES, that is a known fact and his writings and church pronouncements are there for all and sundry to corroborate BUT putting out a blanket affirmation that "Bamenda" is the most fraudulent cyber capital of the world is something no sane Bamenda man (like moi-meme) should take lightly. This is akin to a declaration of WAR. Who is he in the scheme of things to make such sweeping statements?

Bamenda is a small town of less than 900,000 people. Of that number less than 6% are cyber literate talk less of owning a Laptop, desktop or other computer devices. It is true that many now own Cell/Mobile phones but data is usually not available for complex cyber undertakings. I can count the number of "Cyber-Cafes" operating (on a random basis I may add) in Bamenda metropolis. Since the re-installation of the Internet after an international outcry, the government has been working round the clock to monitor the (few and sporadic) cyber activities of Southern Cameroonians in general. Their agents have infiltrated WhatsApp conversations, Yahoo & Google group discussions, signed up on Facebook with fake aliases, they are on LinkedIn with doctored images and they have a whole group of guys stationed @ Zamengoue Satellite center near Mont Febe who are ready to crack down on all "Cyber Opposants". So where is this "Bamenda is the Center of Cyber Criminality" coming from if not from the poisoned mind of a desperado hateful element of uncertainty who is seeking for crumbs from an administration on "Life Support"? Let him get lost. Munchi - Dogah.

Bamenda is NOT, has Never Been and will Never Be (at least in my lifetime) the center of any so-called cyber criminality. They don't have that capacity even if they wanted to. PERIOD. It is a figment of imagination from a very confused, hateful, callous, vindictive, over-bearing, childish and jealous human specie trying to settle old scores with his perceived "Frienemies" of Bamenda extraction. Let him just "Kommot 4 my conner". Badluck meet-up Fain Pah. I beg Muff me dia. Teep Man.

You are conveniently overlooking the fact that diplomatic missions are sovereign spaces of their countries. Besides, what authority has a foreign government got to arrest a citizen in his own country. Check, Assang or whatever his name is of WikiLeaks in embassy of Ecuador in Landon.

Pa Fru,
brilliant stuff.
It answers all the questions we have spent hours on. FBI has hundreds of offices abroad with attaches abroad and does so much work abroad hence the stories that FBI operatives investigate and arrest people abroad is true.

Hi Sango Etongwe,
I might be mixing the FBI and US Marshalls as you suggested. I have not read the bilateral security treaty between Cameroon and the US and to which entity power is given to come to Cameroon and carry out investigations, arrest Cameroonians, get them prosecuted in Cameroon or perhaps take them to the US for prosecution.

All the reports I have always read is that these people who arrive Cameroon, Nigeria etc. are FBI agents. How will a US marshal carry out investigation and liaise with local prosecutors to prosecute people for crimes committed online against US citizens?. It sounds more like the work of the FBI. Domestic US crimes (online fraud against US citizens) with an international dimension might involve Interpol but where there is a bilateral security treaty between the two states (US and Cameroun) allowing the FBI to carry out investigation of crimes in a particular country (Cameroun), I think the FBI can do that. It might even be a joint operation between the FBI and US Marshall Service.

Are you, Sango Tumasang, that you are not mixing US Marshalls with the FBI? The FBI is a US domestic agency, has no authority beyond US borders. US Marshalls will arrest a US citizen anywhere.

Dear Mr. Etongwe,
the FBI came to Bamenda, made investigations and found the location of Therese Mubang and arrested her and took her to Douala and put in a 1:30 pm flight back to the US for prosecution for absconding from prison and for her to continue her previous jail sentence.

FBI it seems can move into many countries and carry out investigations and arrest people. This depends on the bilateral security treaties that the countries have signed with the US. FBI can investigate from the US using cyber tools or come on the ground in Cameroon and investigate, collect intelligence, arrest people, and give the local prosecuting authorities intelligence from their investigations and then liaise with the local prosecuting authorities and provide backup support until various offenders are prosecuted if it thinks it is not reasonable to take them to the US for prosecution.

During the Somalia kidnapping saga, FBI agents (although FBI is supposed to be a domestic agency) were involved in capturing Somali pirates and transporting them to the US for trial. Cameroon is generally a hungry country and can sign any one sided paper called a treaty to get aid from the US without bothering the effect on its sovereignty

I find the story as reported credible.

Tumasang

This story debunks Ni Manu's claim that East Cameroun is more corrupt than West Cameroon. See here, 5 cities involved in the crime and 3 of them are from West Cameroon, with Bamenda being nomba wan, according to FBI stats.

This is  Not a good report card for Cameroon. Nigeria is looking peevish.

Best,
Sam

"Mfoundi High Court in Yaoundé" the same place the thieves such as paul biya, John B Ndeh, Achidi Achu, Phile Yang, Musongue Mafani, Niat, Cavaye etc arrested your brothers from their country and transferred to...

The FBI has launched  a massive arrest in Cameroon to arrest cyber criminals involved in a massive scam via the social media. At the moment, 90 people have already been arrested, mainly in the cities of Douala, Yaoundé, Bamenda, Buea and Kumba, and their trial is currently under way in the nations capital yaounde. Since March 2017, Cameroonian justice has been hijacked by 602 suspected This extensive network of criminals was exposed by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In March 2017, an FBI delegation traveled to Yaounde to hand over a list of 602 Cameroonians specialize in Internet scam in the social  social networks to the Cameroonian authorities. These alleged cybercriminals are reported to have stripped their victims  up to 2,700US dollars more than four billion CFA francs, according to FBI estimation.
Kalara newspaper reports that some of those arrested have pleaded "guilty" explaining that they used false Facebook profiles which  belong to white people to sell items such as clothing, Works of art, pets, etc.) whose prices ranged between 30 and 150 euros. Once a "customer" is interested, they asked him to pay the purchase fee as well as the shipping charge via Visa or MasterCard. Victims had to buy prepaid Visa cards or MasterCard tickets, scratch them and transfer the codes to the scammer via Facebook or via phone. This therefore enabled them to make withdrawals from ATMs in Cameroon.
Though some have not pleaded guilty, during the trial at the Mfoundi High Court in Yaoundé, the prosecution requested  that all the accused by convicted with the exception of two, who produced "convincing" explanations. They included Youmyame Aboubakar, a car salesman who explained that he handed over his laptop for repair by  Fru Tetanye who would might have used the laptop to commit the act.
This is Youmyame Aboubakar, a car salesman who explained that he handed over his laptop for repair to Fru Tetanye who would then use it to commit his package. Also, Ndombe Epoh claims to have been  contacted by a third party by Fru Tetanye to change into cash Master Card tickets worth 1,500 euros.
