Re: [MTC Global] Why can’t Founders get along with the CEOs they appoint? [After Vishal Sikka left this morning]

Thank you professor Havaldarji for exploring a new dimension to the issue.
But a few queries pipped in my mind:
  1. Is it a reasonably acceptable statement:" that those who had not worked with the company were selected as CEOs and hence, they were not familiar with the organization's values and strategic issues"?
  2. Is it expected that such  top niche CEOs are oblivious to industry culture: boss is always right, and code of conduct: gratitude/respect towards founder/colleagues?

In my opinion, the conflict between a CEO and a founder happens when the values and the strategic direction of the
founder are not followed by the CEO. In both the cases of Infosys and Tatas, those who had not worked with the company
were selected as CEOs and hence, they were not familiar with the organization's values and strategic issues.

Sir, Whether, Tata,or Birla and now Infosys, our Indian Culture demands respect for the founders, the owners. Having Attained power and wealth and even fame to boot,it is difficult for a person to let go. This land talks of renunciation and stories of Sri Rama, Emperor Ashoka, as the ideal to follow and yet we also have Palace coups, murders and imprisonment of Kings and Emperors as examples of violent dethronement. All this wisdom is naught. Mr Narayana Murthy has an enviable reputation, he has wealth, and enormous prestige, and moreover, is a wise person. It is difficult to believe that he would want to cling to an offspring (Infosys) even when it has grown and wanting to stay alive in this cruel world that has dramatically altered since his stepping down. In the world, when a boy becomes a man and has to shoulder the life's burden, it is time for the father to unburden himself and to let the son grow on his own. Each living being follows its destiny and man is too small to control it. Best regards, K.Paranjpe On Sat, 19 Aug 2017 10:36:48 +0530 Natrajan Chandrasekhar wrote > They simply cannot let go! The founder has never experienced people in his Company being more powerful & taller than him. He has seen people in shadows; not as the Sun. When the appointed CEO begins to become bigger than his past, he can't reconcile with it. 2. The petty becomes big. Molehills become Mountains. Small issues the new CEO does makes the founder explode. It's just pent up emotions looking for an excuse to be released. 3. Founders feels very uncomfortable when people in their companies start becoming "irrationally rich". It's an emotional weakness created by struggling for years and going through horrid times. When money never came easy, it can't be given away easy either. Regards, Dr. S.S. Dey -- The views expressed are individual and not necessarily MTC Global also share the same views.
